EUROPEAN DIPLOMATIC PROGRAMME

The event organised by the EEAS brought together 53 junior diplomats from all EU Member States and 15 junior officials from the European External Action Service, European Commission and Council of the EU.
The first part of the module, a plenary session, was opened by Ulrike Hauer, Head of Career, Learning and Development Division at the EEAS, other speakers followed with their presentations. The EEAS Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Enrique Mora, addressed the participants on the current EU political priorities, the EEAS Director General for Resource Management, Kristin de Peyron, presented the career opportunities in the EEAS. Then the participants heard from other representatives of the EEAS, EC and GSC about the EU Foreign Policy making, the future of EU security and defence, peace mediation, they discussed gender responsive foreign policy, strategic communications, public diplomacy and foreign information manipulation and interference.
The EDP Module III participants also had the opportunity to visit the EEAS Crisis Response Centre, the Council of the EU and the House of European History. On 11th March evening, the EEAS hosted all the participants and speakers for a networking cocktail reception.
The second part of the week consisted of practical negotiation and simulation workshops, conducted by professional trainers from Clingendael Institute and CENAD (Centre for Experiential Negotiation and Applied Diplomacy).
The European Diplomatic Programme is organised by the EEAS in cooperation with the rotating EU Presidencies. The EDP offers a unique learning opportunity to junior MS diplomats and EU officials. Annually, up to 75 participants attend four EDP modules over a period of an academic year. The EDP creates a professional network of junior EU diplomats and officials improving their core diplomatic skills and strengthening their European spirit. A certificate is awarded to participants upon completion of the whole EDP cycle.
