Vice Admiral Bléjean thanked Lieutenant General Maio for his tour of duty as the MPCC Deputy Director and Chief of Staff, which commenced in September 2019. Admiral Bléjean highlighted that during this period, despite great challenges due to the complex political and military developments in Europe, Lieutenant General Maio was steadfast in his support to the MPCC and provided leadership to Missions, not only on operational issues but also on the wellbeing and security of the deployed forces. Additionally, Lieutenant General Maio managed the implementation and development of the MPCC towards its Phase One objective and made the European Union Integrated Resolve 20 Exercise a successful evaluation for the MPCC; this was despite the significant challenges endured during the COVID-19 period.

Lieutenant General Maio, expressed his pride at having the privilege to work with an extraordinary MPCC staff, with different Mission Force Commanders, and with troops from different countries all working together under the European Union Flag. He thanked the MPCC Director for his leadership and the development of a personal and professional relationship that was built on loyalty and trust. Lieutenant General Maio wished Major General Albl every success in his new appointment.

Major General Albl, after praising the work of his predecessor, stated that he is extremely proud and honoured to be appointed as the Deputy Director and Chief of Staff, MPCC. He assured all present that he will continue the outstanding work of Lieutenant General Maio and looks forward to the continued development of the MPCC. 

Born in 1965, Major General Albl joined the German Armed Forces in 1984 as a conscript in a Logistic Battalion. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Deputy Commanding General of the Rapid Reaction Corps France, Lille.
