The European Union (EU) Delegation to South Sudan organised the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in Juba with an obstacle run in the EU Compound, flagged-off by French Ambassador Christian Bader. Colleagues from the German and French Embassies took part in the race.

The biggest winner at the end of the race was - the Olympic Team spirit! The EU’s Charge’ d’Affaires, Lothar Jaschke reminded that the Olympic Games started in the 8th century A.D and have become a global peace event with 10,500 athletes from 206 countries coming together. Coaches Fred and Edward supported all participants with advice, led them through a warm-up exercise, and helped with cooling down.

Admin assistant Ludia Andu organised a fun quiz : Which God from ancient Greek mythology is said to have founded the Olympics (Heracles, Hera, Apollo, Orion) - What marked the finish line for all the races (an olive tree, a row of bricks, a squirrel, a barbecue) –Olympians wore a special loin cloth while competing at the ancient Olympics  -true or false? Answer: Heracles; olive tree; false as athletes competed nude to show their physical power).

Best of luck to all athletes! In particular South Sudan's basketball team, the only African basketball team in the tournament.
