08/05/2025 – Port Moresby, PNG – The Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea is proud to host the EU Global Gateway Exhibition Fair, taking place today, Thursday, 8 May 2025, at APEC Haus in Port Moresby.

Held under the theme “Building Sustainable and Inclusive Infrastructure for PNG’s Future,” the exhibition highlights the European Union’s Global Gateway Strategy and its growing impact in Papua New Guinea. The event brings together an exciting mix of EU-funded programmes, European companies, implementing partners, and local stakeholders, showcasing how the EU is contributing to sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, digital transformation, and economic empowerment across the country.

One standout example is the EU-STREIT Programme, which has committed over PGK318 million to improve transport infrastructure, enhance access to clean water, and boost agricultural productivity in the Sepik region.

“The core principles that guide the Global Gateway initiative are democratic values, good governance, transparency, equal partnerships, green and clean initiatives, and security-focused investments. These principles ensure that the EU investments align with high environmental, social, and governance standards, and avoiding adverse environmental impacts,” said H.E. Jacques Fradin, Ambassador of the European Union to Papua New Guinea.

The Fair was designed as an interactive and educational experience, particularly for youth and students aged 18 to 35, and it features:

  • Interactive booths highlighting EU-funded projects and partnerships
  • Lightning Tok – a fast-paced series of 2-minute talks on key development topics
  • Panel discussions featuring students, EU experts, and implementing partners
  • Networking opportunities for business, government, and civil society

The event was officially opened with remarks by EU Ambassador Fradin and Managing Director of the Investment Promotion Authority, Mr Clarence Hoot, followed by the exhibition tour and structured dialogue sessions.

The Global Gateway initiative is the European Union’s external investment strategy aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals with our partner around the world. Our commitment is to support the development of high-quality infrastructure that creates sustainable prosperity, jobs, and services for local communities while strengthening connections between the EU and its partners.
