VISA

Since 2009, citizens of North Macedonia who hold biometric passports can travel to the EU’s Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days per six-month period.

For people who intend to work during a short stay or who want to stay for more than 90 days, both visas and work permits are required.

Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport. It offers students, teachers, apprentices and enterprises opportunities to study, work and do internships and exchanges across Europe.

In Erasmus+, North Macedonia is on an equal footing with the EU Member States.

The new Erasmus programme, covering the period 2021-2027, has a budget of €26.2 billion, compared with €14.7 billion for 2014-2020. This will be complemented by about €2.2 billion from the EU’s external instruments.

With this increased budget, Erasmus+ will be more inclusive, more digital, and greener. It will also include DiscoverEU which offers 18 year-olds the possibility to get a European rail pass to travel, learn from other cultures and meet fellow Europeans.

Europe Houses and EU Information Network

Europe House (former EU Info Centre) was founded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia. The first Europe House was opened in Skopje on 4 November 2018 as a space where young people can meet, socialise and network, and thus stimulate innovation, debate, cooperation and critical thinking - while promoting the EU values. Two other Europe Houses were opened in 2021 – one in Kriva Palanka (18 February) and another in Strumica (20 February), allowing young entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives to meet up and come up with new ideas also at a local level.
