Enhancing Grass-root CSO’s Engagement in Monitoring REDD+ Programs in Vietnam

Overall objectives

 

To increase transparency, accountability and good governance when REDD+ programmes are regularly monitored and reported by grassroots Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), including Vietnamese Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs).

 

Specific objectives

 

To develop and implement a Forest Change Independent Monitoring (FCIM) mechanism for CSOs to monitor forest changes within the framework of the Emission Reduction Programme (ER-P) in six North Central Coast (NCC) provinces of Vietnam and advocate for formalising it.

 

Brief summary / description

 

The project will enhance CSOs' engagement in tackling climate change and mitigating its adverse effects in Vietnam, which is “Actions that facilitate and promote grassroots CSOs in monitoring of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) and PFES (Payment for Forest Environmental Services).

 

Expected results

 

1) Capacity of CSOs, CBOs and local communities on REDD+ monitoring reinforced.

2) FCIM system developed, formalised for FCIM network to monitor the forest change within the framework of ER-P in Nghe An province.

3) Platforms created for CSOs and policy makers to discuss findings and recommendations from REDD+ monitoring reports.
