Youth Address Gender Stereotypes and Promote Gender Equality in Vietnam

Overall objectives

To change public opinion and actions in the three biggest cities in Vietnam (Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang) towards equality between men and women in all spheres of life.

Specific objectives

1) Enhanced capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and enterprises in Vietnam with a focus on collaborative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Creating Shared Values (CSV) projects toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

2) Improved mutual understanding and cooperation between the business sector and CSOs in Vietnam in implementing CSR and CSV initiatives related to the selected SDGs by establishing an effective cooperation mechanism.

3) Increased Awareness on CSR/ CSV collaboration toward achieving SDGs for the benefit of Vietnamese society.

Brief summary/description

The project promotes gender equality in Vietnam by increasing youth engagement and participation in addressing gender stereotypes.

Expected results

In order for new gender attitudes and practices to stick, people need to be informed and inspired, apply new behaviours repeatedly, and be recognized for their contributions to their family, community and society. Thus, the project deploys a comprehensive set of interventions that combines (i) behaviour change communications that inspire change, (ii) recurring calls for action among the target public, and (iii) acknowledgement and awards for champions.

The project initiates changes among youth, prominent journalists, and advertisements of pioneer businesses, who will then promote further changes to the public. Award mechanisms will encourage target groups to take actions to change gender stereotypes within and beyond the project’s timeline.
