35 Years of EU-Vietnam cooperation

Since 1990, the European Union and Vietnam have built a partnership rooted in trust, shared values, and a clear commitment to progress, cooperating across trade, sustainable development, innovation, governance, and global security.

Building on this strong foundation, the first EU-Vietnam Global Gateway business and investment forum aims to facilitate high-level dialogues and create new avenues for shared prosperity.

High-level guests, including EU Commissioners Jozef Síkela (DG for International Partnerships) and Apostolos Tzitzikostas (DG for Sustainable Transport and Tourism) and Vietnamese government officials, along with key business leaders from both regions, will come together to focus on strategic sectors that drive mutual growth for the EU and Vietnam.

Fostering economic growth and jobs through the Global Gateway

As Vietnam continues to modernise its economy, it is undertaking significant development initiatives, including administrative and regulatory reforms as well as major investments in the energy and transport sectors. These efforts are pivotal in supporting the twin green and digital transition, alongside substantial decarbonisation processes towards its Net Zero target for 2050. Through the Global Gateway Strategy, the EU is committed to supporting Vietnam by mobilising high-quality investments and creating market opportunities to strengthen sustainable infrastructure, promote innovation, and deliver an enabling environment for long-term growth and employment.

Supporting energy and transport investments for Vietnam’s green and digital transition

In line with the strategic orientation to elevate the Global Gateway from inception to widespread impact, the EU Delegation to Vietnam is organising a Global Gateway business and investment forum. This initiative aims to fully engage the European and Vietnamese public and private sectors, establishing a platform for business collaboration and enhancing the effectiveness of Global Gateway investments and its comprehensive toolbox. The Forum will focus primarily on green energy and sustainable transport, identified as sectoral priorities under the Global Gateway, to support Vietnam’s green and digital transitions and create stronger ties between the European and Vietnamese economies.
