EUROPEAN DIPLOMATIC PROGRAMME

The event organised by the European External Action Service under the title “Common challenges for EU diplomacy: Security, Energy, Climate Transition and Humanitarian implications” brought together 73 participants from Member States and EU institutions (59 junior diplomats from 25 MS and 14 EU officials from the EEAS, EC and GSC).
The Brussels Module consists of two parts: Plenary session and negotiation workshops. The plenary was opened by the EEAS Head of Career, Learning and Development division (BHR.4) Ulrike Hauer, and followed by presentations of excellent speakers from the EEAS, including the Director-General for Resource Management Gianmarco Di Vita, European Commission and General Secretariat of the Council of the EU on topics such as EU foreign policy making, EU response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, energy security, external dimension of migration, cyber security and hybrid threats or climate diplomacy.
The second part of the week included interactive negotiation and simulation trainings, conducted by professional trainers from Clingendael Institute and CENAD (Centre for Experiential Negotiation and Applied Diplomacy).
On 21 March, the EEAS hosted the participants for a networking reception that was launched by Kristin De Peyron, Director for Budget and Human Resources.
The European Diplomatic Programme is organised by the EEAS in cooperation with the rotating EU Presidencies. The EDP offers a unique learning opportunity to junior MS diplomats and EU officials. Annually, up to 75 participants attend the EDP varied programme of four modules in four countries over a period of an academic year. The EDP creates a network of junior EU diplomats strengthening their European spirit and improving their core diplomatic skills. A certificate is awarded to participants upon completion of the whole EDP cycle.
