Announcement of the new intake of Vietnamese students for Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

The European Commission has just announced the 2023 selection of students receiving the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) scholarships, which includes 48 Vietnamese recipients, compared to last year's 40. This year, Vietnam ranks 22nd worldwide in terms of number of EMJM scholarships received.

The 48 Vietnamese recipients of EMJM scholarships hail from various localities and higher-education backgrounds, and will be enrolled in a wide range of programmes in Europe, covering nano science, medicines, forestry, aqua-culture, chemistry, climate change adaptation, computing system, natural resources management, sustainable drug discovery, public sector innovation, amongst others.

Within the framework of the larger Erasmus+ initiative, the EMJM awards EU-funded scholarships to Master students from around the world, encompassing tuition fees, travel expenses and a living allowance. The integrated study programmes last between one and two  academic years, during which the students spend time in at least two different European countries, and will ultimately obtain a joint degree, a double degree, or multiple degrees. Between 2014-2020, 197 Vietnamese students received full EMJM scholarships, constituting the third-highest tally in South East Asia over the cycle.

Speaking about the EMJM scholarships awarded this year to Vietnamese students, EU Ambassador to Vietnam Giorgio Aliberti said: “One of the world’s best-known scholarship programmes, the prestigious EMJM forms part of the Erasmus+ initiative and offers scholarships and grants for studying in different European countries. Studying in Europe, you will have the opportunity to learn new languages and intercultural skills. Academic mobility will be facilitated by real mobility throughout Europe. Once you are in the Schengen area you are  able to travel all over the continent and discover the beauty of Europe, a benefit exclusive to those studying in Europe.”

Erasmus+ is the EU's programme for supporting education, training, youth and sport in Europe. It has a global estimated budget of €26.2 billion during 2021-2027, nearly double the funding compared to its predecessor programme (2014-2020). The 2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, green and digital transitions, and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life.
