French layout, Stalinist houses, Khrushchevks - we all know about the existence of many types of layout of apartment buildings in Tashkent. But do we know the origin of the term "French layout"? Many people believe that this name was associated with the plan of apartments, allegedly designed by French architects, but it is not.
Raymond Camus, French engineer and developer of panel house-building, went to Moscow three times at the invitation of the Soviet government. He signed a contract for the supply of his patented lines for the production of construction panels and gave advice on the organization of construction. Camus bought a license for the first system for mass production of concrete products for construction. The historic building was built in 1958. Over time, more and more of these houses have been built - this was due to the fact that the industrial production of finished concrete products required less cost than traditional brick construction.
