News stories

EU-Japan Friendship Week first started in 2001 as a programme of events lasting for a number of weeks in May, focusing on public diplomacy, academic and cultural activities with the aim of giving the Japanese public a chance to learn more about the EU and EU-Japan relations.

It now sees events taking place throughout May, June and part of July, both prior to and after Europe Day which is celebrated on 9th May each year. Events are primarily organised by the EU Information Centres based at university libraries across Japan, with a few large scale events run directly by the EU Delegation itself.

For 2020, with sudden schedule changes foreseen as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Friendship Week events will not take place during a specific set period. Please scan the individual QR codes given on the programme list for up to date event information for each participating institution (with apologies for any inconvenience, please note that event information is predominantly given in Japanese only).
