Welcome to the website of the European Union Delegation to the United Arab Emirates.

The EU and the UAE partnership is rooted in decades of strong cooperation and shared ambition, shaped by the UAE’s longstanding ties with EU Member States well before the formal establishment of the EU Delegation in Abu Dhabi.

Over time, our relationship has deepened and diversified, reflecting our common outlook and commitment to joint action on global challenges.

Trade continues to be a cornerstone of our partnership, connecting EU and UAE businesses and strengthening prosperity on both sides. The EU is the UAE’s largest export destination, while the UAE is one of Europe’s most important economic and investment partners in the Gulf and wider MENA region.

The launch of Free Trade Agreement negotiations in April 2025 marks a significant step forward in unlocking even greater opportunities for growth and prosperity.

Our cooperation extends to cross-sectoral issues. Together, we are working on advancing peace and security, accelerating the green and digital transitions, promoting education and research, empowering women and youth, and building resilience in a rapidly changing world.

These areas of work are not abstract ideas. Our initiatives in the UAE have already made our societies safer, greener and more inclusive.

At the heart of my mandate is a determination to connect people, not just institutions. When European and Emirati students collaborate, when researchers exchange knowledge, when cultural experiences are shared, we strengthen the bonds of understanding and friendship that form the real foundation of our partnership.
