About the Ambassador

The European Union and its Member States, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are closely linked in human, social and economic terms. We share geography, history, languages and democratic values, and defend these together at international level. 

We are living in turbulent times. With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, war in all its cruelty has returned to Europe. Conflicts in our wider neighbourhood are also claiming numerous victims and causing immeasurable human suffering. The multilateral, rules-based order that has long ensured stability and predictable economic and trade relations is under severe pressure. Instead, international relations are increasingly characterised by power politics. All too often, the law of the strongest prevails over the strength of the law.

In this situation, reliable relationships between like-minded neighbours are more important than ever. Liechtenstein is closely linked to the European Union economically through the European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland through bilateral agreements. A new package of bilateral treaties has recently been negotiated with Switzerland. Once ratified and implemented, they will stabilise and further develop our relations. 

I am very pleased to have the opportunity, as ambassador, to contribute to the further deepening of these excellent relations. At the heart of my work, I want to place dialogue. Whether with the authorities, political forces, and social partners of my two host countries, with civil society, or with the citizens themselves: dialogue is the key to a better mutual understanding.
