EU election observers paid introductory visit to ECZ

The Core Team of the EU Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) deployed to Zambia paid its first introductory visit to the electoral commission on Wednesday, 6 July. The team of experts, who arrived in the country a week earlier, met the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to discuss preparations for the 11 August elections, as well as to establish a good working relationship with the commission.
The EU experts were welcomed at the Lusaka Elections House by ECZ chairperson Justice Chulu, ECZ director Priscilla Isaac, and commissioners David Matongo and Dr Frederick Ng’andu.
The Core Team of the EU Election Observation Mission arrived in Zambia on 29 June to set up and coordinate the EU EOM. The team comprises the Deputy Chief Observer, political, electoral, legal and media experts, as well as an observer coordinator and a press officer. The experts will have a series of meetings with Zambian stakeholders while observing the election process leading to the 11 August polls.
