Statement by the Spokesperson on the situation in Cameroon

Demonstrations have taken place over the last few days in several cities in Cameroon. They have resulted in the disproportionate use of force by the security forces and multiple arrests, including of leaders of the main opposition party.

Some of Cameroon’s embassies abroad have also been the target of violent incidents by opponents.

A solution to the major challenges facing the country can only be found through dialogue, in a calm and inclusive environment where fundamental freedoms and the rule of law are respected.
