The signing of the peace deal between Eritrea and Ethiopia in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia on Sunday, September 16 signals a wind of hope for the Horn of Africa. The agreement officially ends more than 20 years of war between the two countries. The signing of the historic event was hailed a milestone for the peoples of Eritrea and Ethiopia which will contribute to strengthening security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.
The signing of the peace deal was attended by UNSC Antonio Guterres, Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and a number of Eritrean and Ethiopian officials.
The normalization of relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea is a boost for peace and security in the Horn of Africa region and on the continent as a whole.
