EU Film Days 2018 to kick off on 26 May
The 16th edition of the European Union's highly successful 'EU Film Days' film festival will open on 26 May at the National Film Archive of Japan (NFAJ), formerly known as the National Film Center, a part of The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. The Tokyo leg of the festival will run to 21 June and showcase films from 25 EU Member States, 11 of which will be shown in Japan for the first time. Additionally, films from 23 Member States will be shown in Kyoto (the Museum of Kyoto) from 2 to 24 June, while 13 works be screened in Hiroshima (Hiroshima City Cinematographic and Audio-visual Library) from 1 to 13 July.
Co-organised by the Delegation of the EU to Japan, EU Member States' embassies and cultural institutes in Japan, the National Film Archive of Japan, and the two regional venues, EU Film Days brings the best of European cinema to audiences in Japan.
Some screenings will be paired with events featuring special guests (please see the EU Film Days official website below for details):
- The Man Who Looks Like Me (Estonia, 26 and 29 May in Tokyo, 3 and 5 June in Kyoto)
- Miss Kiet's Children (Netherlands, 26 May, Tokyo only)
- Alois Nebel (Czech Republic, 10 and 13 June, Tokyo only)
- Swagger (France, 9 June, Tokyo only)
- Autor Solaris + Layer Cake (Poland, 1 and 2 June in Tokyo, 5 June in Kyoto)
- Emilia.Breaking Free (Lithuania, 7 and 9 June, Tokyo)
- Horse Money (Portugal, 7 June, Tokyo)
In addition to the main programme, there will be an additional screening of a film by the visiting Polish director Borys Lankosz, as well as the Japan premiere showings of two films by Bulgarian director Kamen Kalev (also visiting Tokyo and Kyoto on this occasion).
