EU Institute for Security Studies: Steven Everts appointed as its new Director

The Board of the European Union Institute of Security Studies (EUISS) has appointed Mr Steven Everts as the new Director of the EUISS. He will replace the outgoing Director Gustav Lindstrom, who has managed the Institute since January 2018, advancing the analysis on international security challenges and the developments of the EU’s common foreign, security and defence policy. Mr Everts will start in his new role on 1 September 2023.

Steven Everts currently works in the European External Action Service as Senior Advisor to the HR/VP on Strategy and Communications. Previously, he held positions as member of cabinet to different High Representatives and as Advisor in the Asia Pacific Department of the EEAS. Prior to joining the EU, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Reform and Director of its Transatlantic Programme.

Background 

The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is the Union’s Agency analysing foreign, security and defence policy issues. It acts as an interface between the EU institutions and external experts – including security actors – to develop the EU’s strategic thinking.
