During his inauguration speech President Weah thanked the European Union for its strong partnership with Liberia.  He said that "Europe will always have a special place in my heart, and, as President, I intend to strengthen my relationship with the European community for the benefit of all Liberians."  He confirmed this desire for a closer relationship between Liberia and Europe by meeting with European Ambassadors on his first working day as President. During the meeting resident and non-resident Ambassadors heard directly from the President about his plans to tackle corruption, empower women and pursue a pro-poor agenda.

Ambassador Cavé congratulated President Weah on his inauguration and reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to working with the new government. She outlined the EU's current development assistance and highlighted a number of projects that are ready for final Government of Liberia approval, including support to technical and vocational education and capacity building for civil society. She also referred to the EU-Liberia political dialogue which provides a forum for discussion of all aspects of the bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Cavé was joined by the Ambassadors of the four EU Member States with permanent missions in Liberia, France, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom, as well as by non-resident Ambassadors accredited to Liberia from Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.  The Chargé d'affaires of the Czech Republic was also present.
