Earlier this week European Union representatives attended the ground-breaking ceremonies for two new 'County Service Centers' in Bomi and Rivercess Counties respectively, marking the EU's continued support for the decentralization process, which will bring government closer to the people and make the administration more accountable in delivering on its obligations to the public.

In her remarks at the 3 March 2016 ground-breaking ceremony in Cestos City, Rivercess County, the EU Chargé d'affaires a.i., Emma Sundblad, stressed that while the European Union was providing significant support to the decentralization program its success depended on Liberians. To guarantee the sustainability of the centers, Madam Sundblad said the Government needs to include them in the 2016-2017 National Budget and the National Legislature must move forward with the Local Government Act. She also pointed out that decentralization depends on ordinary citizens being ready to hold the government to account if they don’t see it delivering what they expect.
