For the first time, the European Union in Myanmar presented the EU’s flagship student mobility programme "ERASMUS MUNDUS" at the International Education Fair Myanmar in Yangon. Hundreds of Myanmar students visited the Study in Europe booth and learned about scholarship opportunities to study at leading European universities. EU member states in Myanmar contributed to the booth with information material about life and studying in their countries, with the Netherlands even bringing in education experts to a special Holland desk at the Study in Europe booth.

Myanmar students are eligible to participate in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Programme - a prestigious, integrated, international study programme, offering each year courses on more than 100 different subjects, ranging from aquaculture over public health to software engineering or urban development. More than 150 students from Myanmar participated in the programme over the past years – a relatively low number compared to neighboring countries in the region. The Study in Europe booth at the International Education Fair hence aimed at raising awareness and is part of a wider campaign of the European Union across the country to encourage more Myanmar students to come to study in Europe.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Programmes award full scholarships to the best student candidates applying under annual selection rounds. The scholarships are funded by the European Union and cover tuition fees as well as travel and living costs. Each course is designed by an international consortium of European higher education institutions and takes place in at least two of the programme countries: the 28 EU member states + the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey. Part of the studies can also take place in one of the partner countries across the world.
