EU election observation mission to Ethiopia in 2010

At the invitation of the Government of Ethiopia, the European Union established a mission to observe the House of People’s Representatives and State Council elections there on 23 May 2010.

Thijs Berman, a Dutch Member of the European Parliament, was Chief Observer. The mission consisted of 10 core team members (analysts), 90 long term observers and more than 60 short term observers from 22 EU Member States, as well as Norway, Switzerland and Canada. Election day unfolded in a peaceful manner, with a high voter turnout.

The observers were deployed throughout the country. They met government and electoral officials, candidates and political parties, civil society representatives and the media.
