The European Union is working now more than ever to promote and support efforts to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East, based on a two-state solution, including through the Quartet. The EU’s quartet envoy is Helga Schmid, Deputy Secretary-General and Political Director at the European External Action Service.

HRVP Mogherini also received NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the EEAS this afternoon, as part of the two organisations’ regular and ongoing contacts on topical issues.

Earlier in the day, the HRVP attended a hearing at the Budgetary Control Committee of the European Parliament, in the presence of the responsible members of the European Court of Auditors, as part of the discharge procedure of the EEAS budget for 2013.

The HRVP will then make her way to San José, Costa Rica, to participate in the 3rd Summit of the 33-member Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, before returning to Brussels on Thursday to chair the special meeting of EU foreign ministers on the situation in Ukraine.
