Message from the Ambassador

Greetings from H.E. Ambassador Michalis Rokas

Dear friends,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the official page of the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia. The Delegation represents the EU and works with a myriad of Malaysian partners all over the country. This is done in close cooperation with the EU Member States in what we call the “Team Europe” spirit, or in Malaysian language, “Keluarga Eropah”.

I wish to emphasise the EU’s strong commitment to further deepen its relationship with Malaysia in the many areas where we share important and often growing interests. We have advanced our relationship robustly ever since the Delegation first established its office here in 2003.

But our history runs deeper. We trace our bilateral engagement stretching four decades back when the Delegation of the Commission of the European Communities for South and Southeast Asia opened its Embassy in Bangkok in 1979 with accreditation to Malaysia.

Our strong cooperation with ASEAN has recently been elevated to a strategic partnership, and most recently the world’s first bloc-to-bloc Air Transport Agreement was agreed between ASEAN and the EU.

This website provides easy access to information on all aspects of the Delegation’s work, whether on news and latest developments about bilateral relations between the EU, public diplomacy, bilateral projects, trade, human rights or cooperation with civil society.

The EU’s motto of “United in Diversity” is strikingly relevant in Malaysia with its own distinct reality of different cultures, languages and traditions.

I hope you will find the content interesting and useful. I appreciate the feedback you may have to improve the page.

Best wishes,
H. E. Michalis Rokas
Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia
