The European Union has been present in Guinea for over 45 years. The Delegation of the European Union to Guinea is part of a global network of 139 Delegations and Offices attached to the European External Action Service (EEAS) and works in close collaboration with the diplomatic missions of the Member States. Five EU Member States are currently represented in Guinea: Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and Italy.

What we do

Main mission and role of the Delegation

The main mission of the EU Delegation is to represent the Union and its fellow citizens in the Republic of Guinea, to promote the values and defend the interests of the Union.

In this context, the Delegation monitors and strengthens EU-Guinea bilateral relations in the political, economic, trade, cooperation and human rights fields. It analyses the political situation in the country and reports to Headquarters in Brussels. The Delegation engages in ongoing public diplomacy to increase the visibility, awareness and understanding of the EU.

Located in Conakry, the Delegation of the European Union has the status of a diplomatic mission and performs a function similar to that of an embassy. Its country representative has the title of Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation.

However, the Delegation is not responsible for consular matters, which fall under the competence of the Member States. It therefore does not issue visas or passports.

The Delegation does not grant aid to individuals or companies apart from the calls for proposals which can be consulted on its website.

The Delegation has been headed by Ambassador Josep Coll since September 2018.
