What we do

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau is part of the European Union External Service and is one of the more than 144 EU Delegations throughout the world.

The EU Delegation, which was opened in 1976, acts as the interface between the European institutions and the Government of Guinea-Bissau and its population.

The Delegation's mandate includes the following:

  • To actively promote the values and policies of the European Union, in an open and equal partnership with the Government and people of Guinea-Bissau.
  • To engage on all issues of mutual interest and to strengthen bilateral relations.
  • To play a key role in implementing the EU's development cooperation activities. In Guinea-Bissau, these cover a range of target areas such as health, education, infrastructure, governance, food security and rural development.
  • To inform the Republic of Guinea-Bissau about the policies and programmes of the European Union, as well as its institutions and values.
  • To support regional integration processes and monitoring economic, political and cooperation relations, particularly with the African Union, ECOWAS, UEMOA, CPLP, etc.
