Who we are
The Delegation of the European Union plays an important role in the relationship between the European Union and Ethiopia. In close cooperation with the Heads of Mission of EU Member States, the Delegation works to strengthen political and economic ties, supports the implementation of the EU-Ethiopia Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, and helps to carry out the European Union’s international partnerships programmes, namely through the Global Gateway strategy.

What we do
Official representation of the European Union in Ethiopia
The Delegation of the European Union to Ethiopia represents the EU and promotes strong and lasting ties between the European Union and Ethiopia.
The Delegation was first established in Addis Ababa in February 1975 as the Delegation of the European Commission. On 1 December 2009, following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, it became the Delegation of the European Union to Ethiopia.
Today, the Delegation is part of a global network of more than 140 EU Delegations. In Addis Ababa, it works alongside the Delegation of the European Union to the African Union. The office of the European Investment Bank (EIB), which also maintains links with the African Union, is located within the Delegation’s premises.
The Delegation holds the status of a diplomatic mission and formally represents the European Union in Ethiopia.

The Delegation’s Role in Ethiopia
The Delegation’s work focuses on strengthening cooperation and supporting the partnership between the EU and Ethiopia. Its mandate includes:

Promoting political and economic relations
Building strong ties with Ethiopian government institutions and raising awareness of the European Union, its institutions, and its programmes. -
Monitoring agreements
Overseeing the implementation of the EU-Ethiopia Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. -
Engaging with the public
Providing information about the European Union’s policies, priorities, and developments. -
Supporting EU assistance programmes
Contributing to the planning and implementation of the EU’s international partnerships and humanitarian assistance programmes.
