On 17 January 2014, Mette Teilmann Nielsen, a Reporting Officer from Denmark, was meeting with friends in a Lebanese restaurant in Kabul, Afghanistan. She was accompanied by Simon Chase from the United Kingdom, a close protection officer contracted to EUPOL Afghanistan. Taliban gunmen launched an attack on the restaurant killing Mette and Simon together with 19 other people.
