Walking with Ali: Making life easier for refugees with disabilities

18.01.2021

Delegation of the European Union to Syria

Nine-year-old Ali knows the struggle all too well. Ali has a disability that affects his ability to walk, sit comfortably and generally move around independently. But it didn’t stop him from going to school in Homs, Syria, where he grew up. He especially loves mathematics. When his family fled their home in Syria more than four years ago, they had no idea what the future would hold. Where would they end up? How would they earn a living to support their large family? Would Ali cope without the additional support he needs? They just knew they had to leave if they wanted to survive.
