Media Advisory: High Representative/Vice President Josep Borrell travels to Saudi Arabia

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, will be in Saudi Arabia on 7-8 January. 

During his visit, HR/VP Borrell will meet with high-level interlocutors including Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.

The mission follows his trip to Lebanon and is part of HR/VP Borrell’s engagement with regional partners to advance diplomatic efforts with a view to creating the conditions to reach a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine and in the region.

The trip will be an occasion to discuss all aspects of the situation in and around Gaza, including its impact on the region. He will also address the worrying escalation in the Red Sea.

HR/VP Borrell will also have the opportunity to discuss with Saudi interlocutors the bilateral cooperation and regional priorities in the framework of the EU’s partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council.
