On 2 February, the EU will gather representatives from countries and regional organisations across Africa, Asia and the Pacific in Brussels for the 3rd EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum and the 24th EU-ASEAN Ministerial in Brussels.

3rd EU – Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum

In the morning, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell will chair the 3rd EU - Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum. The EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum will bring together the EU and its Member States with countries from the East coast of Africa in the West to the Pacific islands in the East.

The EU and Indo-Pacific partners will discuss how to address the increasing number of complex economic, environmental, geopolitical, and security challenges that affect both regions. Climate change and environmental degradation are existential threats for all. It is clear that close cooperation is key to address these challenges effectively, achieve sustainable economic growth, and to strengthen our resilience to shocks and disruptions. The digital economy in particular holds the potential for significant innovation and growth.

EU-ASEAN Ministerial

In the afternoon, the EU and ASEAN will hold their 24th Ministerial meeting, co-chaired by the High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Enrique Manalo. Following the EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit one year ago, this Ministerial will review the implementation of Leaders’ decisions and agree the next steps in our evolving relationship. Recognized as global leaders in regional integration, both ASEAN and the EU champion multilateralism and international law.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the EU-ASEAN Strategic Partnership in crucial areas such as trade, climate change and security. Ministers will also assess regional and international security developments.
