Kuwait: Statement by the Spokesperson on the latest executions

30.04.2025 EEAS Press Team

The European Union is deeply concerned about the latest execution of five people in Kuwait on 28 April, following those of January 2025 and September 2024.

The European Union reiterates its strong opposition to the death penalty in all cases and in all circumstances. It is an inhumane punishment which has been proven ineffective as a deterrent to crime and represents a denial of the fundamental right to life and of human dignity.

The EU will continue to work for the abolition of the death penalty in the few remaining countries that still apply it.
