Iceland: First dialogue on security and defence with the European Union takes place in Reykjavik

On 23 June 2023, the European Union and Iceland held their first dialogue on security and defence.

The exchange of views covered a number of issues, including support to Ukraine, developments in the Arctic and North Atlantic as well as investments and innovation in the area of security and defence.

The EU and Iceland also discussed opportunities for cooperation in the areas of resilience, cyber security, countering hybrid threats and countering disinformation.

The EU and Iceland agreed to continue exchanges on a regular basis.

The meeting was co-chaired by Alison Weston, Head of Division for Partnerships and Agreements of the European External Action Service and Jónas Allansson, Director General, Directorate for Defence, Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
