Honduras: Statement by the Spokesperson on the electoral process

18.11.2025 EEAS Press Team

The European Union is closely following the situation ahead of the general elections scheduled to take place on 30 November 2025 in Honduras. The EU expresses its concern about recent developments affecting the institutional framework and preparations for the elections.

The EU calls on the Honduran authorities and on all political parties and actors to ensure that electoral institutions are able to operate independently and effectively, in line with the Constitution. Transparency, credibility, stability and political inclusiveness are essential to enable Honduran citizens to vote in a peaceful and orderly environment.

The EU has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Honduras following a formal invitation from the Honduran authorities and the National Electoral Council, as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting democracy and the rule of law in the country.
