An historical Peace Agreement in Colombia

The peace agreement marked the beginning of a new era in the history of Colombia after a decades-long conflict.
The EU has been a major supporter of the peace process. In November 2015, former Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland and Foreign Minister, Eamon Gilmore, was appointed as EU Special Envoy for the peace process in Colombia. He accompanied the final stages of the negotiations and currently supports the peace implementation process. He has paid many visits to Colombia since 2016 to bolster EU political support for peace implementation and meets with victims, human rights defenders, government, opposition, FARC, civil society and media. The EU is fully committed to consolidating the peace process in Colombia.
At the request of the signing parties to the Peace Agreement, the EU accompanies the implementation of the Agreement, in particular the Rural Development chapter and the Reincorporation of former members of the FARC-EP, through the EU Trust Fund for Peace.
