High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in Brussels today. In their talks, he recalled the European Union's support to strengthen Georgia’s resilience in the context of the unprovoked and unjustified Russian invasion of Ukraine. He also reaffirmed the EU’s firm commitment to Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders.

High Representative Borrell stressed EU’s determination to further deepen relations with Georgia to bring the country even closer to the European Union. In this context, he underlined the importance of cross-party cooperation and unity among the domestic political forces, which is key to making concrete and rapid progress on crucial reform priorities in strengthening the democracy in Georgia. The EU stands ready to accompany Georgia in these efforts, in particular in tackling the domestic political polarisation; getting an inclusive and credible judicial reform agenda on track; and implementing the agreed constitutional reforms in this regard. This is even more important in view of Georgia’s application for the EU membership. Georgia belongs in the European family.
