Funded traineeships for young graduates at the EU Delegation to Lao PDR - Political, Press and Information Section

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Lao PDR?

 

We offer:

Traineeships of up to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Lao PDR, starting in October 2024:

  • Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI):

The Political, Press and information section (PPI) is responsible for domestic and foreign policy political issues, including human rights, as well as for coordinating the Delegation/Mission's press and media activities

Main tasks:

Communication/public diplomacy:

  • Preparing social media content, website content and visibility materials.
  • Drafting press releases, media advisory notes and responding to media enquiries.
  • Supporting the organisation of cultural activities such as European Film & Food Festival, photo exhibitions or other events.

 

Political and economic analysis, reporting:

  • Monitoring national/regional press and social media and preparing weekly press reviews.
  • Contributing to research/in-depth analyses and reporting (based on news or thematic topics related to political, economic and social developments in Lao PDR and in the region), preparing meeting minutes.
  • Assist in the preparation of missions and other events.

 

  • Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP):

The Cooperation Section (COOP) manages a comprehensive portfolio of development cooperation programmes with the Lao PDR.

Main tasks:

  • Assist in the preparation of missions and events, including: First EU-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment and Climate change, European Climate Diplomacy week, Annual Team Europe – Government review meeting, First Laos – EU Business Forum.
  • Engaging in communication activities of the Delegation together with the Development Cooperation colleagues.
  • Preparing social media content and visibility materials.
  • Monitoring national/regional press and social media and preparing press reviews.
  • Contributing to research/in-depth analyses and reporting (based on news on or thematic topics related to social, economic and political developments in the country and within the regional context), preparing meeting minutes.

 

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Taking into account the local health and security conditions, only applicants already residing in Lao PDR and holding a residential permit for the duration of the traineeship will be considered.
  • Written and oral fluency in English.
  • Good communication and social skills.
  • A strong interest in global affairs beyond the boundaries of Europe as well as curiosity for other cultures and societies.

Please mention in the subject of your e-mail: Funded Traineeship - PPI or COOP (you may only apply to 1 traineeship per delegation, however based on your profile, the delegation could offer you a traineeship in another section).

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
