We offer:

A traineeship of 6 months within the Political, Press & Information Section of the EU Delegation to Malawi, starting in June 2025.

For a motivated candidate who has acquired skills in research, analysis, drafting and presenting, who is willing to put in the legwork and the hours to contribute to the work of the Political, Press and Information Section. The successful candidate demonstrates a hands-on, pro-active attitude, an openness to learning, a willingness to put in long hours, flexibility to deal with a fluctuating workload and an eagerness to contribute ideas.

Main tasks:

  • Conduct in-depth research on key issues of interest (e.g. current affairs, elections, key government institutions, institutions advancing human rights, democracy, accountability and civic participation, civil society in Malawi, etc.);
  • Contribute to analysis of current affairs which have a bearing on the EU’s position in Malawi.
  • Drafting reports, fact sheets, articles;
  • Preparation of communication materials, incl. via social media channels;
  • Contribute to our public diplomacy through events, social media and all manner of interactions with Malawian authorities, institutions, entities, agencies, CSOs and the general public;
  • Support the work of the colleagues in the Cooperation Section as needed;
  • Support with general and administrative tasks within the PPI section.

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Bachelors’s degree in political science, diplomacy, international relations, peace and conflict studies;
  • A keen understanding of Malawi’s politics, economics and governance and of international cooperation
  • Maximum 1 year of work experience, no previous experience of more than six weeks in the EU Institutions;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills
  • A hands-on, pro-active, ‘consider it done’ attitude, an openness to learning, a willingness to put in long hours, flexibility to deal with a fluctuating work load, and an eagerness to contribute ideas.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
