EU Support to Higher Education in ASEAN Region (EU SHARE)

The objective of EU-SHARE programme is to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance the quality, regional competitiveness and internationalisation of ASEAN higher education institutions and students, contributing to an ASEAN Community in 2015 and beyond.

Duration: 2014-2019

Amount: €10.3 million

The EU-SHARE programme was designed to support the harmonisation of higher education in the ASEAN region by building on relevant experiences and expertise from the European Bologna Process, the ERASMUS mobility scheme and the creation of the European Higher Education Area. It is also aims to support mutual recognition and student mobility among higher education institutions in ASEAN to strengthen people-to-people connectivity. In the meantime, ASEAN and EU are jointly preparing for further extension of the programme for 2½ years until 2021. During the extension period, SHARE will focus its efforts to strengthen ASEAN’s ownership, institutionalisation and sustainability of the programme’s results.The main components of the programme are:Component 1: Policy DialoguesNine policy dialogues have been organised involving key stakeholders discussing issues of harmonisation of higher education in ASEAN. Eight policy briefs have been published.Component 2: Qualifications Frameworks and Quality AssuranceEleven national workshops and a Peer Multiplier Training have been organised.Component 3: Credit Transfer System and Mobility through Scholarships501 students over four batches have been awarded scholarship grants for intra-ASEAN and ASEAN-EU mobility involving 32 universities in ASEAN and 10 universities in the EU Member States.
