Upon the official start of the electoral campaign for the presidential, legislative and municipal elections in Equatorial Guinea scheduled for 20 November, the EU stresses the crucial need that the conditions for peaceful, inclusive and transparent elections and the respect for the rule of law are ensured by the authorities and all political actors.

The citizens of Equatorial Guinea have the right to participate in an open, free and peaceful electoral process, and to exercise, with no restriction or discrimination of any kind, their freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association, in full compliance with international human rights norms.
