On 2 April, the European Union and Australia held their Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in Brussels. The Dialogue reaffirmed the close counter-terrorism partnership between the EU and Australia.

The European Union and Australia reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively in multilateral fora, such as the United Nations, the Global Coalition against Da’esh, and the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF), which the EU is co-chairing, to enhance international cooperation in countering terrorism.

Discussions covered global and regional threats, including in Southeast Asia, Afghanistan, Central Asia, and the Middle East. The EU and Australia addressed sanctions cooperation, countering terrorist misuse of the internet, and emerging technologies.

The meeting was co-chaired by Nadia Costantini, Special Envoy for Counter-Terrorism at the European External Action Service and Gemma Huggins, Australia’s Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism.
