Celebrating Europe Day 2020 in Geneva

04.05.2020

Europe Day, held on 9 May every year, celebrates peace, solidarity and unity in Europe. It marks the anniversary of the historical 'Schuman declaration'. At a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. This year, against the background of a global health crisis, international partnerships and global solidarity makes more sense than ever.

The EU Delegation in Geneva marks the 70 anniversary of the Schuman Declaration with a variety of activities:

  • EU flags will fly on the Mont Blanc bridge during the first week of May.
  • Instead of running the postponed 'Geneva Harmony Marathon for Unicef' on 9 May, stay tuned for the EU Dream Team joining the virtual alternative.

  • A "70 years of the Schuman Declaration"-Quiz will be launched on our Twitter, Facebook and our website.
