The European Union takes note of the results announced by the National Electoral Commission on the Angolan general elections that took place on 24 August 2022. These elections were conducted in a peaceful environment.

The EU is aware of the complaints by the opposition and civil society on some shortcomings in the electoral process and invites stakeholders to use all legal remedies to address their concerns. It urges the election authorities to make every possible efforts to respond to them in a fair and transparent manner.

The EU encourages an open, constructive and inclusive dialogue between the Government of Angola, opposition political parties and civil society, and recognises peaceful expressions of opinion as essential to democracy.

The EU is looking forward to working with the elected authorities as soon as the electoral process is finalised in order to further strengthen the EU-Angola partnership in the framework of our “Joint Way Forward”.
