EU-CELAC Summit 2023

After more than 8 years, Heads of State & Government of the European Union and the Community of Latin American & the Caribbean States (CELAC) will gather in Brussels on 17 and 18 July 2023.

After more than 8 years, Heads of State & Government of the European Union and the Community of Latin American & the Caribbean States (CELAC) will gather in Brussels on 17 and 18 July 2023. The Summit will be co-chaired by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel and by the Prime Minister of St. Vincent & Grenadines, Ralph E. Gonsalves, as pro-tempore Presidency of CELAC. It will see the participation of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and of the Heads of State and Government of the 33 CELAC Member States and the 27 EU Member States.

This Summit is a key political milestone to reinvigorate the bi-regional partnership. The EU-CELAC Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers in Buenos Aires on 27 October 2022 relaunched high-level political dialogue between the two regions and endorsed a bi-regional Roadmap as a tangible sign of a forward-looking and positive agenda. On 7 June, the EU has published a New Agenda for Relations with Latin America & the Caribbean (adopted by the European Commission as a Joint Communication with the HRVP to the Council and the European Parliament), laying out its proposal for a renewed strategic partnership with LAC ahead of the Summit.

EU and LAC are on track to move from being natural partners to becoming partners of choice.
