World Bike Day 3.6.2022 in Bern

Moments of the World Bike Day in Bern

On World Bike Day on 3 June, the EU Delegation and 15 other embassies of the Greening Embassies Network of Bern invited the population to join them at a street campaign in favour of sustainable mobility at Casinoplatz in Bern's city centre. Over a coffee or refreshing drink and while the own bicycles were being fixed at the mobile repair stand, bikers and passers-by  exchanged views with the diplomats on sustainable urban mobility in Switzerland and elsewhere and informed themselves about biking  routes around Bern. The stand action was opened by local councillor Marieke Kruit, Director of Infrastructures, Transport and Green Spaces of the city of Bern. Afterwards, the ambassadors and other diplomats were invited to a guided bicycle tour through Bern, where various flagship projects in the field of sustainable mobility were showcased.

The Greening Embassies Network in Bern, in which the EU delegation is an active member, works to reduce the ecological footprint of embassy operations and supports measures for a green Bern. It promotes meetings and exchanges on environmental issues between the diplomatic corps, the Bernese authorities and the population. The stand action on the World Bike Day was supported by the International Bern Welcome Desk and the City of Bern.
