25th anniversary of Liechtenstein's membership in the EEA

1st May 2020 marked the 25th anniversary of Liechtenstein’s accession to the European Economic Area (EEA). Instead of the act of state, which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus, the Principality celebrated this occasion with a light installation on the government building in Vaduz on this year’s Europe Day on 9th May.
The projection of the European flag on the government building stood as a symbol of Liechtenstein’s lived solidarity with Europe, which is built on 25 years of close and equal partnership in the framework of the EEA. Prime Minister Adrian Hasler emphasised the importance of being able to rely on partners, especially in these difficult times. Together with the EU, Liechtenstein could master the current challenges.
As EU Ambassador Michael Matthiessen highlighted in his video message for Europe Day: “The Coronavirus shows that Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the EU are a community of destiny!”
