Melodies of the “European Music of Montenegrin Cultural Diplomacy” Concert

Deputy Head Cooperation Sector of the Delegaton of the European Union to Montenegro Liselotte Isaksson emphasised that supporting active citizen participation in improving their communities and the daily lives of fellow citizens represents the essence of the ReLOaD programme.

This essence is best illustrated by the “European Music of Montenegrin Cultural Diplomacy” concert.

"The concert we are about to hear is not just a demonstration of musical talent but a testimony to the enduring power of culture as a means of diplomacy and understanding. It is a living example of how art can nurture friendships among nations," said Isaksson.

The project “European Music of Montenegrin Cultural Diplomacy” is carried out by the Creative Women of Montenegro Foundation with the aim of revitalising European-Montenegrin music and cultural heritage. It is implemented within the framework of the ReLOaD2 programme, funded by the European Union, and implemented by UNDP in partnership with local governments, including the Municipality of Cetinje.

"Tonight's event celebrates the rich cultural history of Montenegro and celebrates the significance of cultural activism," said Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP in Montenegro, Dragana Radević.

"Listening to the melodies of these masterpieces, let us enjoy the musical heritage born from the motifs of the stunning beauty of Montenegro and its people. This music, which is influenced by different civilizations, reflects the history of this nation, telling stories of life, love, cultural values, and social bonds that connect us through the past and through this night," Radević emphasised.

The the premiere of “Danilo's Waltz,” the composition “King of Montenegro,” and a composition dedicated to Victor Emmanuel III and Queen Elena of Italy were performed during the concert.

Artists from Germany, Austria, Poland, Italy, and France composed works for various musical ensembles dedicated to Montenegro or members of the royal family.

"Our vision is a multicultural European Montenegro, and we believe that only such Montenegro has a future," said Milica Marković, President of the Creative Women of Montenegro Foundation.

"With the rhythm of dancing waltzes that were played at European courts and the rhythm of heroes' marches from our history, we will remember the image of Montenegro at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, a land of brave people and a glorious past," Marković concluded.

During the concert, video recordings and photographs of diplomatic ceremonies at the court from the period of the Kingdom of Montenegro were presented, while the inspirational building of the Government House displayed original sheet music that has been preserved in the rich court library of the Museum of King Nikola for over a century.
