António Costa in Podgorica: Montenegro Should Maintain Focus and Not Slow Down Progress

Montenegro is one of the best examples of the positive momentum of the EU Enlargement, stated the President of the European Council, António Costa, during his first official visit to Montenegro.
As part of the visit, a press conference was organised. Costa said that enlargement is a key strategic investment for stability, peace, and prosperity in the region and Europe.
“Montenegro’s progress results from your ambition, dedicated work, and focus on becoming a new EU member. You are delivering results and maintaining full alignment with the common foreign and security policy, primarily by supporting a just peace in Ukraine,” said Costa.
He added that the European Parliament recognised Montenegro's significant progress.
“It is now crucial that you maintain this approach, stay focused on the goal, and do not slow down this awe-inspiring progress,” Costa noted.
The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, stated that such visits confirm that the European perspective of our region and the European perspective of Montenegro remain high on the European Union’s agenda.
“Our country is proud of its status as a frontrunner in European integration, and we are truly determined to stay on that course. The goal is clear. The goal is to become the next EU member, the 28th member by 2028,” said Milatović.
