On November 22, Engineer Yaqoub Marrar, Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, highlighted Jordan's significant potential for green hydrogen production through local renewable energy projects.
Speaking at the Jordanian-European workshop on green hydrogen, he noted that renewable energy from wind and solar contributed 27% to Jordan's electricity generation by the end of 2022, compared to 1% in 2014, presenting an opportunity for Jordan to lead the global transition to clean energy, particularly green hydrogen as a clean fuel.
Thibaut Moyer, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Jordan, emphasized the economic opportunities in transitioning to low carbon, citing the EU's success in reducing carbon emissions by 30% while growing its economy by 60% over three decades. He reaffirmed the EU's ongoing support for Jordan's energy diversification, industrialization and job creation.
